Create a lifestyle, not a diet

For the last few weeks I’ve been noticing that many people are on some sort of diets. They all want to lose weight, especially now after the holidays when everyone was eating too much. So now they are trying different diets that they believe they help, and well, I guess many of these diets will work as expected and people will be happy because they will lose that extra weight. But what will happen then?
It looks like people start with a diet and after some time they achieve their goal – they lose as much weight as they wanted. But when their “mission” is accomplished they start eating the same way as they did before and sooner or later, they gain the weight again. Many of them then say that the diet didn’t work as they expected or something like that. Well the diet did work, but you obviously didn’t stay on it.

So what to do? Well stop with the diets and rather create a lifestyle that you can keep. Instead of being so strict on some diet, try to find the one that you will really like. Don’t start a diet that you know you can’t keep up with it for a long time. If you suddenly cut out all the things you like and eat most of the time, it will be really hard for you. Why don’t you start changing the way you eat slowly and try to cut out just few things at the time and replace unhealthy foods with better ones. Step by step. And let your goal be healthier lifestyle on a long term, not just for a while so you can lose weight. I guess losing weight will not be as fast as you would like, but it will come true – and after that you will be able to sustain the weight if you will slowly create a healthier lifestyle.

    Thanks for the tips; this is definitely a better way to look at it. I also wrote a similar post about New “Life” resolutions – as opposed to a new “year” or “diet.” Great post and I look forward to sharing more with you:))
